I met Dr. Wandra Arrington as a scared biology/pre-med major Freshman at Alcorn State University in 2013. From the day I met her I knew that she saw something in me that I didn't see in myself. Dr. Arrington always went above and beyond to ensure that I kept my grades up, had access to the best opportunities, and presented myself in a way that would make me a competitive medical school applicant. What I really admired about Dr. Arrington was that she not only did that for me, but for every student with whom she crossed paths. It was truly a blessing to have someone like her by my side throughout my academic career motivating and encouraging me to never give up on my dreams. Unfortunately, after graduating from Alcorn State University I had not been accepted to medical school. For three years, I worked at numerous healthcare practices to gain clinical exposure, shadowed various physicians, and took my MCAT 5 times to increase my chances of getting accepted into a program. Those were some of the most discouraging years of my life, but Dr. Arrington was there every step of the way writing letters of recommendation and connecting me with people/places to help me get closer to my goal. I am proud to say that I am currently a second year medical student on track to becoming a neurosurgeon! I owe much of my success to Dr. Arrington and felt it was only right to nominate her for this awesome award! To this day, she still calls and checks in on me and is willing to write a letter on my behalf with no hesitation. She is truly a servant of the Lord and devotes her life to ensuring her students achieve their hearts' desires. She is more than deserving of this award and I wish there were more people in this world like her!
