The Awesome Awards - Nominations

Joe Michna
NOMINEE

Nominated by Kristopher Bell
November 19, 2019
I would like to nominate a special gentleman for the work he has done (and continues to do) with helping people in the local community and from all walks of life with various problems. The person I would like to nominate is Joe Michna who is the manager of the charity Hartlepool Citizens Advice. Joe has been with the charity since 1988 and has helped over 25,000 people and continues to do so at the age of 66. Joe unfortunately lost a leg in 2015, was off work for just a few weeks and returned to carry on the good work he does. Joe is so passionate about the work he does, he works continuously day in day out, week in week out, evenings and weekends and never asks for anything but dedicates his time, energy, help and support to others. I feel Joe is really worthy of an awesome award, hence the reason I would like to nominate him. The charity is a small local charity and it depends heavily on its volunteers, donations and local fund raising. Joe and his small team of staff and volunteers, provided support to around 4,500 individuals this year. Some examples of the work Joe (and his team) does (all for free - impartial and confidential) includes help for the homeless, debt advice and helping with money issues, help, advice and support for people on low incomes, helping those with physical and mental health and barriers that prevent people from finding work, family and relationship issues, community care, welfare entitlement etc (the list goes on). Joe really does do an amazing job and has dedicated the majority of his life to helping people with a wide range of problems and changed lives for the better without ever thinking of himself!
