presentation tips
The Awesome Awards create an opportunity for you to recognize and appreciate someone
amazing and to make them feel special. With that in mind, here are a few tips for
presenting your award:
Speak from your heart - this is the most important
thing to remember.
Mention specific qualities or traits or actions
that you appreciate and value.
Make eye contact - recognition is about communicating.
Be generous - give your praise freely, don’t drive
with the brakes on.
Be thoughtful - think about what you’re going
to say and how you’re going to
say it. Is it a formal ceremony, a serenade or a surprise flash mob? Have fun with
it and make it awesome!
Think social - recognition is like a big hug from
your community. If you want
others present, be sure to invite them beforehand.
Plan ahead to capture photos or videos of your
award presentation - ask a friend
to help record the magical moment for posterity.
Consider location - where you present your award
is important. Will it be at
a quiet cafe or a community townhall meeting? Make sure people can hear you when
you're talking.
Hand over the award - you can hand the recipient
their award at any time during
your presentation, but it's usually best towards the end, once they know what they're
being recognized for.
Offer the recipient a chance to respond after
receiving the award. Some folks
will say a few words, others will simply be too overjoyed. Either is fine, just
go with the flow.
The act of recognizing someone is special and inspiring, not only for the person
receiving the award, but also for the person presenting the award as well as the
people that are watching. It's ok to feel a little nervous but remember, everyone
wants to see you succeed!
