I am nominating Kim Pickett, Principal / Creative Director of KIMBO Design Inc., for an Awesome Award. Here’s why: Kim is awesome because she single-handedly grew her business from a small freelance operation to a thriving creative agency.
Kim moved from Toronto to Vancouver with the vision of building a sustainable future for herself. She was 25 years old with barely $3,000 in her bank account. Knowing only two people in Vancouver, she started KIMBO Design on a shoestring budget and conducted business out of her small Kitsilano apartment.
Kim worked two jobs to cover living and business expenses. One of these jobs was a bartending gig at Bar None, one of Vancouver’s hottest and busiest nightclubs. Without an official business degree, she read second hand business books and attended every free business networking event. Kim proved herself by always going over and above what was expected of her (as well as having some truly genius creative ideas).
Today, KIMBO Design is located in a spacious office in downtown Vancouver, and Kim has a staff of 5 (and counting!). She’s received numerous awards and nominations, and she’s worked on high-profile ad campaigns for Premier Christy Clark and Mayor Gregor Robertson. She deserves an Awesome Award because of the inspiration she is to others. Kim has proven that with passion, persistence and hardcore work ethic, anything is possible.
