Avery Plank

Nominated by Matt
May 24, 2016
His name is Avery Plank and he is a 7th grader at Mountain Middle School. In May 2015 he decided he wanted to help the homeless by giving them food for their pet. He had seen many of the homeless, that their pet is the best friend, companion, and their sole source of unconditional love. So he created Project Unconditional Love (PUL). So he then started calling businesses such as Country Store, Natural Grocers, North 40, Costco, URM, etc. and asking them for broken or expired bags of cat and dog food. Then he bought gallon and quart Ziploc bags. Direct Storage donated a 10x10 ft. storage unit for PUL to use. He filled the gallon bags with dog food and the quart bags with cat food. He puts them in storage tubs and take them down every Wednesday night to 4th and McClennan and pass them out with Blessing Under The Bridge. He started this May 27, 2015 and have not missed a week. Even during 4 months while a broken shoulder from wrestling was healing. Typically he takes down 8-12 40 gallon tubs of pet food a week. The most he ever did was on Dec. 18, 2015 when we had 1,100 people there. He has a bank account with Chase Bank and have a donation barrel at the North Country Store on Newport Highway.
