Born and raised in Montreal, now living in the Toronto area of Canada Khadisha Thornhill is a power woman in both of Canada's official languages. She describes herself first as a strong "Black Canadian woman and single mom to a 14yr old Black future NHLer" , She has an impressive corporate background - a twenty year history in the insurance industry with a strong teaching component (she was even honoured with the title Satellite Instructor of the Year in 2009 for teaching insurance courses). As active on the sports field as in the office, she played touch and flag football recreationally for 15 years - and coached her son’s repflag football team! She's a TV star, too! Khadisha appeared on Life/Slice Channel’s The Mom Show 4 times over two seasons and was a guest (she won!) on Brain Battle - something she says she did while she was bored on mat leave! With her latest passion project, Khadisha is an outspoken co-founder of the important new Canadian collective. AFRO CANNADA BUDSISTAS and organization she felt motivated to spark because, she says, " I developed an appreciation for cannabis approximately 4 years ago when I was dealing with some chronic shoulder pain issues...I have recently been prescribed medical cannabis and it’s made me more
adamant to advocate for better insurance health benefits coverage for medical cannabis to ensure end-user patient access." When asked to speak about the new initiative, she says, ""I love everything about my community AND Black women. I’ve spent nearly 4 years as an admin and moderator for Black Moms group on Facebook - a group with more than 16 thousand members! On that project I developed a lot of skills in managing online safe spaces for Black women. Every day I remain committed to standing up and speaking out to the ravages of systemic racism and white patriarchal societal systems. I need the world to be a better place not only for my son, but for me, for all of us, for NOW." AFRO CANNADA BUDSISTAS is a safe space for African Canadian / African African American women on line.
